Blog: Privacy Shield
The EU-US Privacy Shield has been ruled illegal by the European Court of Justice. UVSAR is not affected by this judgement.
The EU-US Privacy Shield directive has been the basis for third-country data transfer for several years, but today the ECJ ruled it illegal (Case C-311/18). This means that no personal data relating to EU data subjects (natural persons present within the EU at the time the data was collected, citizenship not relevant) can be transferred to storage and processing systems subject to the laws of the United States, unless adequate contracts (Standard Contractual Clauses) are in place.
This ruling has long been expected, and as a matter of long-standing policy UVSAR does not use US data processors or storage services for any personal data, either of our customers or on their behalf. All our data, including on TAMS hosted platforms, resides within the UK and EU at all times. As such we are not affected by this ruling.
